The Artist Phillip TURNER was raised in Gurnos Cross, Lower Cwmtwrch, Nr. Swansea, the descendant of the large
" TURNER " family. His grandparents, Wm. Thomas TURNER & Alice Daisy TURNER ( nee GWILLIAM ) settled in Glanrhyd after their move from Hereford in the early 1920's.
After surviving the often fatal T.B. illness, firstly at Graig - y - Nos., and then at " Highland Moors Sanitarium, Wellington Road, Llandridnod Wells, Powys. He returned to his home at 2 Heol Gron, Gurnos Cross, where he was raised by his parents - Philip William Henry & Elaine TURNER ( nee CONNOLLY ).
The Author spent his Education years at Gurnos Primary School and then for a term at Cwmtwrch Primary School. Returning to Gurnos Primary School for his final year in Primary Education. At the age of 11 years the Author spent the next 4 years at Maesydderwen Comprehensive School, Glanrhyd, where he was taught by one of the many teachers, Mr. Ewart ALEXANDER, the most noted being a famous playwright.
On completion of his Education the Author progressed from his first employment at ' The Perry Chain Co. ', at Caerbont, to become a Stores Superintendent in ' Smiths Crisps Ltd., Fforestfach, Swansea.
The next 40 years he was to gain an extensive knowledge of Materials Control.
Retiring at the age of 59 years from Industry through ill health.
The Author is also an accomplished artist painting many scenes of - Animals, Birds, Castles, Cats, Flowers & Landscapes, and having his work at one time on display in ' The Cefn - Coed Mining Museum ', Crynant, in the Dulais Valley. The very colliery were his father, Philip William Henry TURNER worked for many years earlier.
